Garden Organically

Healthy gardening with no GMO's and plants fed with clean water - is organic gardening. It is on everyone's mind who is concerned with the way our food is produced. The ability to produce one's own produce is simple. Work hard. Learn how to maintain a plant or two or two hundred. Accept the failures with the joyous successes. It all starts with a favorite fruit or vegetable. I just happen to choose strawberries.

Our Story

Strawberry Planet became the title for my garden efforts while a verbal error produced the term. I was describing my garden and the words fell out. I thought what a great garden site it would be. The plant I was describing is now over three years old and thriving. I do very little for it other than a few soakings of water a week and a tri-monthly feeding.

It is like a planet, this strawberry plant. It orbits a container bound grapevine that is as old as this berry plant is. They co-exist as a solid unit and each has bore fruit. Most of my successes are silly accidents and if you chose to get started like I did on simple, hardy vegetables and fruits, you will fall into successful gardening, too.

My Secret is Gardening in The Desert

The photos I share around social networks have brought many compliments and inquiries. What most people fail to understand is that my garden is a small oasis in a harsh desert outside the Las Vegas Strip. I do grow things here. I successfully grow things here. I am determined to challenge this brutal climate and enjoy a passion that overtakes a lot of my life in the Spring for three very good reasons. 1 - I want to eat good things. 2 - I want to save money and 3 - I am passionate about nature. The joy this effort brings is more than produce I collect and I would love to share that with you in my gardening journal. It is in the research stages at the moment, but once I get a move on the pages and get the words to flow together you will understand how a few hours a week will reward you with a fantastic supply of good things. In the meantime, enjoy my blog here on Strawberry Planet and go get some seeds or a starter plant. Follow along with me as Spring 2016 evolves. I have much more than strawberries lurking in my back yard and all of them feature a few surprises.

Welcome to my gardening world!
